St Wulfstan Surgery: Top tips for young people
1. Registering with a GP
In order to access GP Services, firstly you need to get registered, it’s free, quick and easy.

2. Using the NHS App (24/7 access)
Once you’re registered, one of the easiest ways to manage your healthcare is by using the NHS App.
Through the app, you can:
Book GP appointments
View your medical record
Order repeat medications
And even contact the surgery with queries
This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, but of course, you can still cal the surgery durring working hours (Mon-Fri 08:00 - 18:30) if you wish.
3. Seeing the Same GP for Continuity
Whenever possible, it’s a really good idea to see the same GP each time.
That continuity helps your doctor get to know you, your health history, and what matters to you, especially if you have ongoing or recurring issues.
4. Confidentiality
Many people worry about confidentiality.
If you’re aged 16 or over, your appointments are confidential.
That means we won’t share information with parents, carers, or college unless you ask us to, or unless there’s a serious safety concern.
5. Pharmacists & the NHS Website
If you develop new symptoms, it’s always worth thinking about whether a local pharmacist or the NHS website might be a good first step. They are highly trained and can be very helpful for things such as hay fever treatments, skin rashes, sore throats, cough, cold and flu symptoms.
The NHS 111 website also has reliable, easy-to-understand information that can often answer questions straight away.
6. Mental Health Support
Mental health is just as important as physical health.
It’s normal for mood and anxiety levels to change, especially during college life.
If you’re struggling with low mood or anxiety, please consider speaking to a GP.
You can also access support directly through Talking Therapies and some online tools - these don’t even require a GP appointment first.
And if you’re ever in a mental health crisis, urgent support is always available by calling 111.
